Many of our friends and neighbors kept asking us to create some projects that would improve our green spaces throughout our community. Since a number of groups already strive to do this, we thought we should only take on the projects that seem to slip through the cracks. Therefore, our first public beautification project is the median plantings on Broad Ripple Avenue and the Monon Trail crossing. This quite prominent intersection had not been maintained for some time. GBR volunteers, under the guidance of our resident gardening expert Candace, planted the median this summer with purple and white flowers (Broad Ripple's official colors) and cleaned up the trash and replaced the mulch in order to beautify the space. Through drought and flood, our little island garden is doing quite well. GBR plans to continue to maintain this site along with locating additional overlooked areas that can use some green love.
